What is the BIRCh Project?

Housed at both UMass Boston and UMass Amherst, the Behavioral health Integrated Resources for Children Project (BIRCh Project) provides professional development and resources for schools and strengthens the coordination of behavioral health supports provided by school and community agencies. The BIRCh Project also coordinates stakeholders from a myriad of agencies to streamline access to resources and create a network of community-based supports through the School-Based Behavioral Health Technical Assistance (SBBH TA) Center.

What is the TA Center?

The School-Based Behavioral Health Technical Assistance (SBBH TA) Center seeks to:

  • Strengthen school districts’ capacity to promote wellness, including behavioral health;
  • Enhance partnerships between school districts, and with state and community agencies/organizations;
  • Develop the children’s school-based behavioral health workforce; and
  • Improve access to, and effectiveness of, high-quality and culturally and contextually responsive school-based behavioral health services.

The TA Center’s work is grounded in an equity-driven, Interconnected Systems Framework (ISF), organized into three tiers at varying levels of intensity [link to Establish Tiered Interventions page].
